Biography: Dr. Montenegro-Montero was trained as a molecular biologist, and has a Masters and a Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics from P. Universidad Católica de Chile, Chile. His research was focused on gene regulation, specifically, on the characterization of transcriptional regulatory networks in eukaryotes. After postdoctoral work at the same institution, Dr. Montenegro-Montero did a short postdoctoral stay at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, USA, before joining Wiley as the Chief Editor of Health Science Reports, an international academic journal covering medical and health science research. Dr. Montenegro-Montero then joined Current Protocols as Senior Editor, where he run the molecular biology, plant biology, and toxicology sections, and worked with multiple corporate partners to create innovative content to inform the scientific community of the latest advancements in research and laboratory technology and innovation. In 2022, Dr. Montenegro-Montero joined Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) Press as Executive Editor, where he oversees CSH Protocols and runs the laboratory manuals program. As Executive Editor, Dr. Montenegro-Montero is responsible for multiple aspects of the day-to-day operations of the journal and laboratory manuals, including managing peer review, developing and implementing strategies for journal development, and liaising with the community at conferences and site visits. Dr. Montenegro-Montero also leads the “Integrity in Publishing” Team at CSHL Press, providing support and advice for CSHL Press colleagues, editors, and societies on publishing best practices.
