ReproducibiliTea workshop: A gentle introduction to scientific error
Description: One threat to reproducible science is the misreporting of results— from rounding errors, to severe mistakes, to outright fraud. But if a study does not share its data, how can we assess the validity of the findings?
In this workshop, Dr. Nick Brown (Linnaeus University) will introduce the topic of scientific error and how to check whether the reported statistics in a research paper 'add up.' The workshop will be a gentle introduction, so come along no matter your research background!
Bio: Dr. Nick Brown is a visiting fellow in the Department of Psychology at Linnaeus University. He holds a BA in Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Cambridge, a master’s in Applied Positive Psychology from the University of East London, and a PhD in Health Psychology from the University of Groningen.
His work specialises in the detection or errors in scientific research. He has been involved in exposing numerous instances of erroneous data, such as fraudulent RCTs in obstetrics and gynaecology, and fake studies of cures for COVID-19 (e.g., Ivermectin, Vitamin D).
The workshop will be open to all Warwick students and staff (so feel free to bring a friend!). To register, please use this form: https://forms.office.com/e/thnFiUuC0cLink opens in a new window.
