Former BMJ editor accepts Honorary position at Warwick Medical School
Former British Medical Journal editor Richard Smith has become a Warwick Medical School Honorary Professor.
Richard worked for the British Medical Journal for 25 years, from 1979 to 2004, spending the last 13 years as editor. From 1991 until 2004 he was also the Chief Executive of the BMJ Publishing Group.
After leaving the Journal, he took up the role of Chief Executive for United Health Europe and is also currently the Director of Ovations Chronic Disease Initiative.
Originally qualifying as a doctor in 1976, Richard has enjoyed a vast and varied career. He has lectured and given seminars and workshops internationally for the last 30 years and was awarded a CBE in January 2000.
More recently, he published a book called 'The Trouble with Medical Journals' and was invited by students at Warwick Medical School to give a talk as part of the Distinguished Speakers series
