Mechanochemistry Event

8th - 9th May 2026, University of Warwick

A focused scientific meeting on cytoskeletal filaments and molecular motors - the cellular machinery that drives cell division, cell migration and the motility and correct distribution of organelles. The programme will include inspiring keynotes from Joe Howard and Kristen Verhey, and provide many speaking opportunities for postdocs and students. Further, we will celebrate the career of Rob Cross and his contributions to kinesin and tubulin biophysics as he transitions into life as Emeritus Professor. The event will also be available via Livestream.

Registration and Abstract submission

We have been able to keep participation costs to a minimum. All options below include lunches and coffee breaks.

The following registration options are available via 'Register' below:

  • Livestream only (FREE)
  • Registration only (£30)
  • Registration + Friday's dinner (£70)
  • Accommodation + breakfast (£95 per room per night) (you can select 1 or 2 nights - Thursday and/or Friday night).

EMBO Sustainable Travel Awards

Through EMBO sponsorship, we will be able to offer sustainable travel bursaries to encourage travelling to the meeting by train and local public transport.

Overseas participants using train for their onward transport after arriving into the UK are also eligible to apply.

Eligible for the EMBO Sustainable Travel Awards are students and postdocs residing in EMBC member states or associated countries (India, Singapore, Taiwan, Chile, Japan).

Bursaries are limited to the cost of the train ticket or £180, whichever is lower. Apply for a bursary during the abstract submission process.

Travel awards will be confirmed by 8th March 2026. Costs up to the awarded amount will be reimbursed after the meeting and submission of receipt or ticket.

Travel Information

Despite our name, the University of Warwick is not located in the town of Warwick. It is at the Southwestern boundary of Coventry with Warwickshire, about 3 miles (5 km) from the centre of Coventry.

By train

The closest train stations to the University are Tile Hill, Canley and Coventry. Leamington Spa is also handy if travelling to our campus by bus.

If travelling from continental Europe via Eurostar, London Euston is a 10 minute walk from London St Pancras. Fast trains to Coventry from London Euston take approximately 1 hour.

By local transport

The University is served by several frequent bus routes connecting to train stations in the area, with Coventry and Leamington being connected best. The closest bus stops are Gibbet Hill Campus (GH5 and GH6, 1-4min walking) on Gibbet Hill Road and Stoneleigh Road (7min walking). The main University stop is located on central campus, near the accommodation. The walking time from main University campus is about 10-15 minutes.

From Coventry station, travel time to Gibbet Hill Campus:

  • 20 mins by bus
  • 15 mins by taxi

From Leamington Spa station, travel time to Gibbet Hill Campus:

  • 35 mins by bus
  • 30 mins by taxi

By car:

Parking is available at both the Gibbet Hill campus and Scarman Conference Centre.

The Conference Centre is located 4 minutes away from Gibbet Hill by car and 20 minutes away by foot.

By plane:

The nearest international airport is Birmingham International (BHX, 12 miles) with a regular train connection to Coventry. All major London airports have direct National Express Coach connections to Coventry or trains via central London.
