Examining the Experiences of Chinese Caregivers Caring for Chinese People at End of Life in Community Settings in England
Research aims:
The aims of this research were to understand the experiences of Chinese caregivers caring for Chinese people at EoL in community settings and explore strategies for improving such experiences. This research is qualitative in nature and the interpretive phenomenology methodology shaped the research. Semi-structured interviews were employed to collect data across England.
This study has produced evidence that helps to understand the experiences of Chinese caregivers caring for Chinese people at EoL in community settings and has explored strategies for improving such experiences. Achieving the goal of improving care for Chinese people at EoL requires culturally sensitive practices and implementation strategies. The findings suggested a need for education and support for encouraging health and social care professionals to obtain the competency required for providing appropriate EoL care. Future services might establish a collaborative support system among patients, Chinese caregivers, Chinese communities and religious organisations, and health and social care professionals in community settings. Strong research and evaluations should underpin the implementation of culturally sensitive EoL care.
