West Midlands Stroke Research Network
The West Midlands Stroke Research Network is one of eight local research networks funded by the Department of Health to facilitate the conduct of randomized prospective trials and other well-designed studies of stroke, including those for prevention, diagnosis and treatment. The group is made up of doctors, nurses, therapists, lay persons with experience of stroke and researchers from the West Midlands.
The object of the network is to work together to facilitate the conduct of high quality clinical research and foster the integration of research into clinical practice to prevent strokes and to achieve better outcomes and thus improve quality of life for stroke patients and their families.
The West Midlands Stroke Research Network operates on three sites, with local staff and management structures. They are Stoke-on-Trent, Birmingham and Coventry-Warwick.
The Coventry-Warwick Team is made of a Clinical Lead (Prof Franco Cappuccio), a Stroke Champion (Dr Pijush Ray), and Research Facilitators (Ms Irene Martin, Mrs Sheila Nyabadza). They are based in the Division of Mental Health & Wellbeing of the Warwick Medical School.
