Mental Health
Our Centre for Mental Health Care Research brings together researchers, clinicians, people with lived experience, and national and global partners to transform how mental health care is designed, delivered and evaluated.
Our research spans health systems, diverse socio-cultural contexts and lived experience, with a particular focus on groups often underserved by services. This includes community members with severe mental illness, people with learning disabilities, minoritised communities and those living in under-resourced settings.
We combine co-production, complex intervention research, mixed methods, ethnography and responsible digital innovation with Warwick’s strengths in clinical trials, quantitative methodologies and health economics to deliver meaningful system-level change.

Mental Health Services and Digital Innovation
We co-produce and evaluate innovative approaches to mental health care, combining psychosocial interventions, service transformation and responsible digital innovation. Our work integrates implementation science and health technology assessment to ensure service improvements deliver equitable real-world impact.

We tackle youth mental health challenges across schools, communities and health services, with a focus on early intervention, care transitions and system transformation. Working with national and international partners, we co-design and evaluate culturally relevant, scalable solutions.

Learning Disabilities and Mental Health
We improve mental health care for children and young people with learning disabilities through co-produced research. Our work develops integrated models that promote early access, community support and coordination between health care services.

We strengthen mental health at work, particularly in high-pressure sectors such as healthcare and construction. Our research addresses organisational drivers of distress and promotes healthier, more equitable workplaces.

We investigate how social, cultural and political contexts shape mental health across diverse populations worldwide. Working with communities and international partners, we address inequalities through research on social determinants, maternal mental health, gender-based violence, racism and global mental health systems.

Our Projects
Our research is supported by NIHR, UKRI councils including MRC, EPSRC and AHRC, Wellcome and other national and international funders. Together, our projects form a coherent programme that generates evidence to improve mental health policy, services and outcomes.
Our Team
Our multidisciplinary team brings together psychiatrists, psychologists, social and humanities scientists, data scientists and methodologists. Working across all career stages, we combine diverse expertise to tackle complex mental health challenges through collaborative, real-world research.
