Reflective Art Gallery by Young Adult Carers in Nigeria and the UK

Welcome to our Art Exhibition

The artworks in this gallery were created by young adult caregivers who participated as artists and co-researchers in art-for-wellbeing initiatives in Nigeria and the UK in 2025, as part of a doctoral research project.

Four art groups took part in the project - two in Nigeria, two in the UK. Visual art techniques included scrap art, graffiti art, painting, printmaking and sculpture. Topics centred on wellbeing, caregiving and creative expression. Artists made individual and collaborative pieces which were displayed in exhibitions, sprayed on walls, worn as clothing and used in campaigns. The compilation video above shows a range of stunning artwork created by these talented young artists.

The artists met online at a cross-cultural webinar in April 2027. Groups shared stories, artwork and ideas, leading to the creation of this gallery. Web pages showcasing each group's artworks and creative reflections are currently under construction - please check back soon.

The webinar was fully funded by the Society & Culture Spotlight.

We have changed caregivers' names to preserve anonymity for the research. However, artists deserve recognition for their pieces and where possible, we used pseudonyms chosen by participants to acknowledge artworks.
