Biography

I qualified as a Registered Nurse in 1995 and to date have worked in Acute Medicine, Coronary Care, Resusciation and Emergency Medicine. I currently hold a part-time position as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Emergency Medicine at Heart of England NHS Trust. I have been working at the University of Warwick since 2009 in the Clinical Trials Unit. I started with a project for the Department of Health Emergency Preparedness Clinical Liaison Group (EPCLAG) which focussed on triage models in mass casualty and rising tide incidents. I undertook a systematic review entitled 'Pandemic Influenza ? Is there a triage tool that has been validated for use in influenza to assist in the management of rising tide incidents?' which I also submitted as my MSc final project and I was awarded a distinction grade A for this project. The paper is currently being prepared for publication. I have also completed two other literature reviews, and statistical modelling and analysis of physiological variables used within triage tools. My role within this was to lead the work stream and pull together the data analysis from the statistician, and interpret this for the recommendations of the work. The culmination of the project was a report for the Department of Health detailing recommendations for further work into Major Incident Triage Tools to improve clinical practice. Since then I have successfully secured a CLRN Training Fellowship for two years to prepare me for PhD training. I have used this time to work on the HTA funded Pre-hospital Randomised Assessment of a Mechanical compression Device In Cardiac arrest (PARAMEDIC trial). I have been working alongside the trial co-ordinator and facilitating the training of clinical staff, both with organisation of the training and the day to day delivery of the training packages. This also involves training the paramedics on the trial protocol and the principles of Good Clinical Practice.I have been involved in data collection for the trial.
