Research Interests

Dr Backhouse is an Associate Professor at the University of Warwick and has a background in podiatry having qualified from the University of Southampton. With over a decade of experience in applied clinical research, his research ranges from large pragmatic clinical trials to imaging and mechanism of action studies, and systematic literature reviews. All of Mike's research aims to improve outcomes for people with musculoskeletal disease and other long term conditions. His portfolio of funding includes personal fellowships and competitive grants, primarily from the National Institute for Health Research, and musculoskeletal charities.

Biography

Prior to joining the University of Warwick, Mike worked at the Universities of York and Leeds. Mike is also a Past President of British Health Professions in Rheumatology and a former Trustee of the British Society of Rheumatology. Other professional activities include being a member of EULAR's Health Professional Scientific Subcommittee and he is a former member of the College of Podiatry's R&D Committee.
