Research Interests

Health services research including clinical trials, prehospital critical care, trauma, pain management, sepsis and cardiac arrest.

Biography

Mike is an Associate Professor in Emergency and Critical Care, based in the Emergency, Prehospital, Perioperative and Critical Care (EPPiC) research group at Warwick Clinical Trials Unit. His research mainly focuses on the prehospital phase of critically ill patients. He has a particular interest in the treatment of cardiac arrest and pain management. He is a paramedic by clinical background, spending several years as an air ambulance critical care paramedic. He currently works in intensive care as an advanced critical care practitioner at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire. MIke was the first paramedic to be awarded an NIHR Clinical Doctoral Research Fellowship, completing his PhD on prehospital recognition of sepsis in 2017. He holds volunteer roles with the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (BLS task force vide chair), European Resuscitation Council (science chair BLS Science and Education Committee). He is a board member of the 999 EMS Research Forum. Mike is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and Fellow of the European Resuscitation Council. He supervises several PhD students, and would welcome contact from individuals interested in pursuing a PhD or MSc in Health Research.
