Main areas of research interests are broadly three-fold and relate to: Neuronal electrical synapses in health and disease. Central autonomic control of organ, body and cardiovascular homeostasis in health and disease at the level of the hypothalamus. These interests are related in that electrotonic coupling is an important feature of autonomic sympathetic preganglionic neurones (SPN) and the SPN are the model for health and disease that research within the group has previously focused on. Future research aims are to build upon and develop already on-going projects relating to these general themes. The work involves combined electrophysiological, anatomical and molecular approaches in collaboration with colleagues both overseas and within the UK.
