Staff development - learning design consultancy and building capabilities

Digital education

We recognise that all academics use technology as a part of their teaching, whether creating digital learning materials for the Digital Learning Ecosystem (DLE), creating interactive experiences in the lecture theatre, communicating with students, setting students technology-enabled tasks, creating virtual patients or delivering online assessments. As well as having access to software and hardware, you need the confidence, skills and ideas to make effective use of technology.

How can the WMS academic technology team help? We can provide expert guidance, signpost training opportunities and connect you to people who are doing similar things.

Academic Development Centre (ADC)

The Postgraduate Award in Digital Education has been developed to provide a theoretical understanding of current debates, challenges and opportunities in digital education from a technological, human and educational perspective. It is designed to provide an essential theoretical foundation for technological innovation.

Cultivate is the ADC's open access series of events and resources to support learning, teaching and assessment. It caters to all experience levels, ranging from early career academics to those leading modules and programmes. Cultivate supports individual professional development and offers collaborative enhancement opportunities to address Faculty and Department needs.

Digital Capabilities Discovery Tool

The JISC Digital Capabilities Discovery Tool is an online activity for staff and students that is designed to help the individual reflect on their digital capabilities. It produces a personalised profile that identifies current strengths and areas for development and provides links to further support, training and resources based on your profile.

The 'overall digital capabilities survey' takes about 15-20 minutes to complete.

Go to the webpage, log in and select Explore your overall digital capabilities to get started (read the guide for help logging in)

  • Responses and reports are confidential to the individual unless they choose to share them.
  • Organisational administrators will only see aggregated, anonymised data

This tool is available now for all staff and students, follow the link below:

Please note any students completing the 'Overall digital capabilities' survey will be able to count this towards the Student Opportunity Warwick Skills Award initiative.
