Research Projects
From March to September you will carry out two research projects in two different disciplines, working in research labs across Warwick. In most cases, one project is biology-focused and the other is in chemistry, physics, mathematics, engineering or computer science, giving you hands-on experience of interdisciplinary research.
- Module: Research Project (MS942, 60 CATS)
- Project 1: March–June
- Project 2: July–September
Choosing Your Projects
Project choice and design are student-led.
- Meet potential supervisors. Throughout Term 1, supervisors present their research and potential projects at weekly online seminars, known as Brown Bag Talks.
- Design your own project. You are encouraged to develop a project proposal together with a supervisor whose work interests you. Supervisors also propose projects, which you can choose from.
- Get advice. You make your final choice in consultation with the MSc Course Director and the MRC DTP Director.
Where Projects Take Place
Projects can be based in Warwick Medical School, any department in the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Medicine, or WMG, giving you access to a wide range of expertise and facilities across the University.
Sharing Your Research
You will learn to communicate your research to different audiences:
- presenting a poster on your first project at the annual student conference in June
- writing up your research for specialist and non-specialist scientific readers
- making a short podcast about your second project for a general audience, with dedicated training from a professional science communicator
Assessment
Project 1 (March–June)

Project 2 (July–September)
A 3,000-word article explaining the research to scientists outside the field (20%) and a 3-minute audio podcast for a general audience (20%).
