Essentials of Diabetes Prevention and Management

Gp

This one day course will support clinicians to improve diabetes patient outcomes within a primary care setting. It will enable you to provide a clear overview of evidence-based lifestyle adjustments that can have a meaningful impact on diabetes prevention and treatment beyond the recommendation of ‘following a healthy diet’.

Taught by practising clinicians, the course will include an update on epidemiology, diagnosis and classification of diabetes with a review of modifiable risk factors contributing to the rise of diabetes.

Why study this course?

This course will enhance clinicians’ ability to offer evidence-based lifestyle and nutritional interventions as a critical element of diabetes care. Topics covered will include skills to assess nutritional status using advanced screening and management tools in challenging and time-poor clinical environments, and the bidirectional impact of new-generation pharmacological treatment options.

Who is the course aimed at?

This course is designed for clinicians in various roles involved in diabetes care, including those who treat patients at risk of or with a diagnosis of diabetes. For example:

  • GPs and primary care physicians
  • Nurses and physician associates
  • Pharmacists and dietitians
  • Paramedics and podiatrists

How will I learn?

You will be taught by clinical and teaching-focused staff associated with the University of Warwick Medical School. During the day you will take part in activities including case based learning, group work and quizzes to review your learning.
