Degree requirements
You need to hold at least an upper second class UK honours degree or equivalent. For international students, you can see how your current degree score or GPA equates to the British system on the International Office's equivalent scores table.
For our PhD courses, we prefer students with previous research experience or training in relevant research methods. If you do not have any previous research experience, please consider applying for one of our taught or research Master's courses.
English language requirements
We require evidence that your English language capability is of a level that will enable you to succeed on your chosen course of postgraduate study. Different courses ask for different standards of English language achievement.
Academic references
We require two academic references for postgraduate research courses.
You will need to ensure, in good time, that your referees are willing and able to write a reference (letter of recommendation) for you. If you provide a valid email address in the online application form, we will contact them directly on your behalf.
You should nominate referees who can provide an informed view of your academic ability and suitability for your chosen programme of study. The University will accept professional references if you have been out of higher education for over two years and these must be submitted by your current or most recent line manager. Please note that personal references, such as those from family and friends, are not acceptable.
