Integrated Science: Molecular Biology & Science

This module introduces students to the fundamental concepts of molecular biology and genetics, and the essential laboratory skills requiredfor experimental work. It provides a bird's eye perspective of life science disciplines, covering the molecular and genetic basis of life, and introduces students to a modern working molecular cell biology lab.

After completing the module, you will be able to:

  • Understand the molecular basis of life
  • Explain basic architecture and function of cells
  • Describe how DNA can be manipulated in vitro
  • Outline the genetic basis of heredity
  • Master basic experimental skills, including record taking
  • Build confidence in quantitative data analysis, interpretation of experimental data, andwritinga scientific report
  • Communicate a fundamental concept in molecular biology or genetics by creating a brief animation or short film to a non-specialist audience
