Quantitative Problem Solving 1: Python Programming
This module introduces students to coding using the Python programming language, providing foundational coding skills and computational approaches to solving scientific problems. No prior coding experience is assumed; students progress from basic variables and control structures through to data analysis, plotting, and the use of AI-assisted vibe coding.
After completing the module, you will be able to:
- Explain various forms of digital data
- Describe general principles applicable to many programming languages
- Apply algorithmic thinking to solve coding problems
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate with a computer through the terminal
- Perform core functions in Python and explain their uses
- Plot data and perform basic statistical data analysis using Python
- Effectively use AI in a vibe-coding format to address computational problems in biology
- Collaborate in a group to develop a basic tool for molecular biology
