Warwick medical students launch national teaching initiative
Four Warwick MB ChB students have launched a national teaching initiative designed to support clinical-year medical students across the UK.
Nur Mousa, Ibrahim Al-Jibouri, Imen Rezgui and Adam Ahmed have set up CORE to provide accessible, practical teaching that supports both clinical competence and academic development, particularly in areas such as imaging interpretation and advanced clinical skills. The programme also offers guidance on getting involved in research. It is supported by Warwick Medical School and guided by consultant and registrar supervisors from NHS trusts across Coventry and Warwickshire, who contribute to and oversee sessions.
Nur explains: "Our aim is to deliver structured teaching that complements clinical placements and strengthens clinical confidence ahead of OSCEs, finals and foundation training. We prioritise small group learning, interaction and real clinical application."
The team come from a range of clinical and research backgrounds, and their previous academic and healthcare experience has shaped the structure and focus of the programme. Ibrahim says: "Through setting up this teaching programme, I have been able to utilise my background in optometry to support and deliver clinical teaching in ophthalmology, an area where students often have limited hands-on exposure during training."
The first sessions took place in April 2026, focusing on ophthalmology and ultrasound, and the team are planning to deliver a total of 10 sessions over the coming weeks. Feedback so far has been very positive:
