Warwick Medical School

Kaylee Dickerson is an MB ChB student and part of the Teddy Bear hospital team teaching children about what happens when they or their parents are engaging with the healthcare system either in hospital or at their GP surgery. Their fun, interactive sessions help allay any fears that children may have about seeing health care professionals and what happens when different tests and procedures take place.

Kaylee said ‘Children are invited to bring a teddy bear with them while they play doctor using stethoscopes to listen to the heart, using bandages and plaster casts to mend injured limbs and undertaking scans with mock X ray machines. They learn about what to do when people are injured, who to tell and how to maintain a healthy lifestyle through eating well. It’s a really engaging session for both children and us students.”

The next Teddy Bears’ hospital picnic will take place on Saturday 20 July at Warwick Medical School between 10am – 3pm. While students work directly with primary schools to highlight this opportunity to children if you or know someone with a child between 4 – 11 years old there are still places and everyone is welcome.
