Andrea
Why did you decide to study medicine at Warwick Medical School?

I was initially a medical student at the International Medical University (IMU), which partners with Warwick Medical School. The graduate-entry program particularly appealed to me as it offered the chance to join a mature cohort of peers with diverse professional and academic experiences.

How did you find the transition to life and study in the UK?

Having studied abroad before, I was somewhat prepared for the adjustments. However, no amount of preparation can truly ease the emotional challenge of leaving behind friends and family. Despite this, the transition was smooth, and the welcoming community at Warwick made settling in easier.

How have you found the MB ChB so far and how have you found your overall Warwick experience as an international student?

The MB ChB program has been a rewarding experience so far. The range of societies and interest groups at Warwick has been a major highlight for me. Additionally, the Malaysian community here has been incredibly supportive, creating a sense of belonging.

Have you been involved in any extracurricular activities?

Over the past year, I’ve served as President of the Warwick Medical School Surgical Society, Events Lead for the Trauma and Orthopaedics Society, and Regional Lead for the Neurology and Neurosurgery Interest Group. These roles have allowed me to collaborate with peers, organize events, and meet like-minded individuals.

What tips do you have for other international applicants?

It’s important to have a clear goal or motivation for studying abroad. This will not only keep you focused but also help you make the most of the opportunities available. Engage with societies and events, and always be open to learning - it’s the best way to maximize your experience
