Robert Pettifer's Last Paper Published

All members of the Department will be pleased to know that the last paper Robert Pettifer was working on has now been published as a Nature Letter (Pettifer, Collins and Laundy, Nature 454, 196-99, 2008).  Proof again that Robert's science was always of the highest quality!

Please also note that all the authors are ex-members of this department.

Timothy Veal awarded Fellowship

tim_veal.jpg

Dr Tim Veal has been awarded a five-year EPSRC Career Acceleration Fellowship (£665k) to fund a project on developing nitride semiconductor materials for high-efficiency solar cells. Nitride-based solar cells with concentrator technologies promise to deliver significant advances in efficiency and reductions in cost over the current state-of-the-art. The project will be undertaken in collaboration with twelve nitride research groups from across Europe and nitride semiconductor growth groups at Cornell University, USA and Canterbury University, New Zealand. Knowledge transfer will be achieved via a partnership with Sharp Laboratories of Europe, Oxford - their parent company, Sharp, is the largest solar cell manufacturer in the world.

EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY UPDATE

The Equality and Diversity website has been reviewed and updated in line with current legislation.  Policies relating to equality and diversity have been reformatted so they are uniform.  The E&D site also contains a forum for use by staff - this is currently under-utilised and the University wishes to encourage its use.
