Mike Marsh (MET office): Space Weather at the Met Office
The Met Office Space Weather Operations Centre (MOSWOC) has been providing 24/7 operational space weather forecasts for the UK since 2014, with the primary commitment of supplying space weather forecast alerts and guidance to the UK government. Space weather forecasting uses multiple sources of information to inform the analysis of current space weather and its likely evolution, covering most of the domains between the Sun and Earth's upper atmosphere. The space weather programme is supported by forecasters, scientists, IT and business teams, to provide forecasts for a range of customer sectors, in addition to the government. This talk will cover why, what and how the Met Office conducts space weather forecasting.
