Full text:  The British Council, under the Newton Fund, invites applications for the institutional links grants – UK, Indonesia, Thailand and Turkey. These enable partners in the UK, Indonesia, Thailand and Turkey to collaborate internationally and gain access to new research environments, facilities, knowledge and expertise in order to enhance the quality of their research and enable them to translate research and innovation into economic and societal benefit. Collaborations must establish new research and innovation links or significantly develop existing links between research groups, departments or institutions with the potential for longer term sustainability. They must also focus on topics or themes that have relevance to the economic development and welfare of the partner country. For Indonesia, proposals should address the following priority sectors in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic: energy; health; transportation; marine; multidisciplinary and cross-sectoral; social humaniores, arts and education; engineering products; food. For Thailand, proposals should address the following: bioeconomy, circular economy and green economy; AI for all and data economy; ageing society; social science and humanities; sustainable management of natural resource. Proposals may also relate to COVID-19. For Turkey, proposals should address: ICT; machine manufacturing; energy; automotive; health including COVID-19; agriculture and food; social sciences; metallurgy; advanced material technologies; chemistry. Each proposal must have one principal applicant from the UK and one from Indonesia, Thailand or Turkey. Both Principal applicants must be leading or established researchers and permanent employees of a non-profit HEI or researcher organisation, a UK HEI or a catapult centre. Grants from the Newton Fund range from £50,000 to £150,000 depending on the partner country, with additional funding provided by the partner country co-funders. Projects may last for one to two years.
