Sam Carr (Kent): "The Well Tempered Physicist"
Temperament is to do with the way musical scales are tuned — the most common is known as `equal temperament’ which featured in 'the well tempered Clavier’, a collection of preludes and fugues in all musical keys written in the early 1700s by Johann Sebastian Bach. But what exactly is equal temperament, what are the alternatives (such as Pythagorean temperament), and what has any of this got to do with maths and physics? In this talk we will explore these questions and enjoy some Bach.
