How do I use this calendar?

You can click on an event to display further information about it.

The toolbar above the calendar has buttons to view different events. Use the left and right arrow icons to view events in the past and future. The button inbetween returns you to today's view. The button to the right of this shows a mini-calendar to let you quickly jump to any date.

The dropdown box on the right allows you to see a different view of the calendar, such as an agenda or a termly view.

If this calendar has tags, you can use the labelled checkboxes at the top of the page to select just the tags you wish to view, and then click "Show selected". The calendar will be redisplayed with just the events related to these tags, making it easier to find what you're looking for.

Theory Seminar: Sofia Qvarfort (UCL), Gravity sensing and entanglement detection with optomechanical systems
PS1.28

In this talk, I will give an overview of two recent developments on sensing with nonlinear optomechanical systems and detecting entanglement in Hydrogenic systems. Optomechanical systems operating in the quantum regime one of the most promising emerging quantum sensing technologies. We are interested in computing the fundamental sensitivity that such a system can achieve, especially for challenging tasks such as gravity sensing. It is generally easier to detect a time-dependent signal experimentally, but it is significantly more difficult to model. In the first part of the talk, I will show how we solve the dynamics of a time-dependent optomechanical system and compute the quantum Fisher information for time-varying displacements of the mechanical element. I will also discuss some settings where these results apply. In the second part of my talk, I will discuss a more esoteric question, namely the detection of entanglement for a Hydrogenic system. While the Hydrogenic solutions to the Schrödinger equation have been known for almost a century, the question of whether the two subsystems are entanglement is not often addressed. I will show how entanglement can be computed for free and localised Hydrogenic systems.

Leverhulme Early Career Fellowships

For early career researchers, with a research record but who have not yet held a full-time permanent academic post, to undertake a significant piece of publishable work

Fellowships can be held at universities or at other institutions of higher education in the UK.

The Fellowships are intended to assist those at a relatively early stage of their academic careers, and it is hoped that the appointment would lead to a more permanent position for the individual, either within the same or another institution.
Value

The Trust will contribute 50% of each Fellow's total salary costs up to a maximum of £25,000 per year and the balance is to be paid by the host institution. Each Fellow may request annual research expenses of up to £6,000 per year to further his or her research activities.
Duration

Fellowships are tenable for 3 years on a full-time basis. The Trust will support requests to hold the award part-time over a proportionately longer period for health related reasons, disability or childcare commitments.

UKRI Deadlines

Due to the implementation of a new UKRI funding system (TFS) there will be a fixed quarterly deadlines for some grants which would previously have been on open calls, this is to allow necessary system amendments and updates.

The first deadline after implementation will be 28th September 2023 and applies to those calls listed below:

EPSRC New Investigator Award

EPSRC Network Grant

EPSRC Post Doctoral Fellowship

EPSRC Open Fellowship

EPSRC Open Plus Fellowship

EPSRC Working with overseas scientists

EPSRC Standard research grant

EPSRC Discipline hopping in ICT

EPSRC Overseas travel grant
