Warwick Christmas Lectures

Some pictures from the 2026 Christmas lectures

The Warwick Christmas Lectures have been running since 2011, when we started with a single public lecture in the Physics Department. The have grown a lot since then, and now each year we collaborate with other STEM subjects to bring science to as many people as possible, entertaining and amazing audiences! The 2026 Warwick Christmas Lectures will be held at the Warwick Arts Centre in December, with tickets available on their website. Expect mind-boggling science, explosive experiments and audience participation.

We will be back at the Warwick Arts Centre in December 2026. For tickets, please visit the Arts Centre website. Please note, tickets are not available to purchase at the moment.

Lectures are recommended for ages 8+.

To take part in the Christmas Lectures

Would you like to share your passion for science with over a thousand school children, young people, families and adults? We are looking for enthusiastic and engaging scientists to take the stage in Warwick Arts Centre’s Butterworth Hall in December 2026.

The deadline for this year's applications is 11am on Wednesday 3rd June. Please email Asha Eade-Green with the following:

1. Outline of your proposed lecture (no more than one side of A4 paper). Shortlisted applicants will be invited to a meeting where we ask you to present part of your proposal. Full versions of experiments will not be necessary.

2. Please include confirmation of availability for the performance date of Wednesday 2nd December 2026.

Each Lecture is up to 20-minutes (you can do less than 20 minutes). We are looking for:

● Science / science related themes that are engaging and interesting

● Exciting experiments and/or demonstrations that have a visual impact

● Language that explains things clearly to those as young as 8 years old, but also engages the adults in the audience, and all the ages in between!

● Enthusiasm and passion for your subject

● A willingness to work with the Christmas Lecture team to shape your material

● Opportunities for the audience to be called on stage to volunteer or to participate from their seats. One experiment should ideally include the whole audience

● If you are staff, ways to get your colleagues / students involved in the planning or delivery of the lecture

● A festive connection is desirable but not essential

● You can be a PhD student, academic, technician, or any other science-related role

There are also other ways to support the lectures! The Live Labs may take place alongside the lectures this year, offering an opportunity to present hands-on science stalls - more information soon. We are also always happy to have extra help on stage or with preparing demos.

These will be populated soon - come back later for a look at what we've done so far!
