How the World Will End

On Wednesday 5th December, 250 school children, members of the public and local residents came to hear Professor Boris Gaensicke talk about how the world will end. Boris is an astrophysicist, based at the University of Warwick's Physics Department, and he researches burned out stars.

Boris talked about how he and other astronomers observe stars in other solar systems, and by watching them we can see what is likely to happen to our nearest star - the sun. He explained that stars turn Hydrogen into Helium, and demonstrated the differences between the two gases by putting a flame near a balloon filled with each gas.
