Christmas Lectures 2012
You are invited to the Physics Department, at the University of Warwick at 7pm for mulled wine and minced pies,
with the talks starting at 7.30pm.
Discovery! The Higgs Boson
Wednesday 28th November: Daniel Scully
This year saw the completion of a 40 year quest to find the final piece in our theory of particle physics. Join particle Physicist Daniel Scully to find out what the Higgs Boson is, how it was discovered and how this affects our understanding of the universe.
Suitable for 14 year olds onwards
How the world will end
Wednesday 5th December: Boris Gaensicke
You might think we know nothing of how the world will end, but astrophysicist Boris Gaensicke explains that we know an awful lot! He will take you onto a tour into the distant future of our solar system as we catch a glimpse of our future by observing other planetary systems that have already evolved that far. How, and when will the world end? Come along to find out!
Suitable for 14 year olds onwards
Physics Tricks and Flying Frogs!
Wednesday 12th December: Rachel Edwards and Andy Howes
Liquid nitrogen and magnetic fields are tools that physicists at Warwick
use daily. Join Dr Rachel and her sidekick Super Andy as she investigates the
important questions of the day: What happens if you freeze a balloon
animal in liquid nitrogen? How can explosions help to generate very
large magnetic fields? And just how do you levitate a frog?
Suitable for anyone over 10 years old.
