PhD Research
I am investigating high temperature superconductivity in nickel oxides (nickelates), supervised by Prof. Geetha Balakrishnan and Dr. Daniel Mayoh.
The 2023 discoveryLink opens in a new window of "Superconductivity near 80 Kelvin in single crystals of La3Ni2O7 under high pressure" by Hualei Sun et al. at Sun Yat-sen University has revitalised research into high temperature superconductivity. My research aims to further our understanding of the structural, superconducting and magnetic properties of nickelates at both ambient and high pressure conditions generated by diamond anvil cells.
Background
I completed a Master of Physics (MPhys) degree at the University of Warwick in 2025. My Master's project investigated how quantum confinement in carbon nanotubes modifies the optoelectronic properties of photovoltaic perovskite CsPbBr3-xIx, supervised by Dr. Reza Kashtiban. In the summer of 2024 I completed a research project on the synthesis and characterisation of 2D topological magnet Fe3GaTe2 for spintronic applications, supervised by Prof. Geetha BalakrishnanLink opens in a new window and Dr. Daniel MayohLink opens in a new window. In 2024 I carried out a literature review on high temperature superconductivity in hydrides, supervised by Prof. Paul GoddardLink opens in a new window. In the summer of 2023 I completed an internship at ICMG Japan in collaboration with Global Thermostat performing data extraction and analysis on carbon sequestration projects utilising direct air capture of CO2.
