EGC Cultural Visits

One very important aspect of learning about British culture is the opportunity to visit places of historic, educational and cultural interest.

EGC Summer School includes a residential 2-night stay in London and day trips to Oxford, Stratford Upon Avon and Warwick Castle. Prior to each visit, a briefing session will be delivered, highlighting the main features of each destination.

Return coach transport is provided for these visits and a University of Warwick tutor will also accompany the group.

With its location in the 'Heart of England', the University of Warwick is within easy range of numerous local attractions.

Coventry

Coventry, with its rich history, is the closest town to campus. You can visit the ruins of the old Coventry Cathedral and then take in the splendour of the new, modern Cathedral Church of St Michael which is adjacent to it.

Kenilworth

The lovely town of Kenilworth is just 5 minutes from campus, and is home to a lovely park, shops, restaurants and the partial ruins of Kenilworth Castle (https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/kenilworth-castle/). The castle is steeped in history and boasts a connection with Queen Elizabethan I, and its restored gardens are especially worth a visit. Abbey Fields park is a stone's throw from the castle.

Royal Leamington Spa

A short bus ride away from campus, Royal Leamington Spa is a beautiful Regency town which features Georgian architecture, Victorian parks, and a wealth of shops, bars and restaurants.

Birmingham

Birmingham, England's second city, is easily accessible from Coventry by bus or train. There is a wealth of high street and designer shops to visit, including the stunning Selfridges and newly-built Bullring & Grand Central Shopping Centre. You can find Birmingham's state-of-the-art library and numerous museums and galleries where you can while away a few hours. If you get hungry, there are hundreds of excellent bars and restaurants to choose from, with canalside Brindley Place well worth checking out.
