Oxford

Oxford, The City of Dreaming Spires, is famous around the world for its University. For over 800 years, it has been home to royalty and scholars, and nowadays is a bustling cosmopolitan town.

With its mix of ancient and modern, Oxford has plenty to offer today's visitors. Check out Christchurch College and Cathedral, the Bodleian Library and the Radcliffe Camera.

For Harry Potter fans, Oxford boasts an interesting connection. Christchurch College, New College and the Bodleian Library all feature in the ever-popular films.

If you want to wind down a little, you could try your hand at punting on the River Cherwell. You can find boats for hire close to Magdalen College.

Oxford also has many fascinating museums, some of them offering free entry. Why not explore the Ashmolean (www.ashmolean.org) or the History of Science Museum (www.hsm.ox.ac.uk).

You could buy a ticket for the Oxford Hop-on-Hop-Off bus tour. Stops include Oxford Castle, the Sheldonian Theatre, University Park and Christ Church College. Enjoy the onboard commentary and historic views as you take in the city, hopping on and off whenever and wherever you want.
