Preparing for a PGCE Massive Open Online Course MOOC

Staff at the Centre for Teacher Education have designed the Preparing for a PGCE MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) to support you in preparing for your PGCE year which can be accessed now.

This essential course is completely free and based on the University of Warwick's successful PGCE programme. You will learn observational teaching skills along with key legal knowledge that will stand you in great stead for the PGCE to come.

The course runs on multiple occasions (start dates & links below), has a duration of 4 weeks and requires 3 hours of study per week.

We are keen to support all trainees to successfully complete their course.

Please read the form carefully and ensure you request a meeting with the Departmental Senior tutor to discuss your disability or condition that may require support or adjustment when prompted to on the form.

This condition will be cleared once your form is submitted and checked.

Please read the form carefully and ensure you disclose any and all conditions or disabilities. If a disclosure is made your form will be assessed (confidentially) by one of our Occupational Heath Team, who will arrange a telephone call or appointment and make any recommendations for adjustments or assistance to enable you to meet the criteria for teaching and teacher training. Once you have met with the team, and your form is assessed this condition will be passed.

We are keen to support all trainees to successfully complete their course and this question aims to encourage a positive climate of disclosure and a holistic approach to support.

DBS Check

Provide an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Certificate Link opens in a new windowand provide a clear non-UK check (if applicable)

You will receive a link from noreply@knowyourpeople.co.uk within 10 days of you having accepted our offer (please check junk/spam folders if you have not received this, and contactDisclosures@warwick.ac.ukif you require assistance).

The DBS condition will only be cleared once your certificate has been returned by the DBS Service.

Please ensure you action any and all emails from our disclosures team and the Know your People to progress your check as early as possible.

These checks can take time to be returned by the DBS Service so the sooner you apply and follow all required steps, the better. Any delay in your DBS check may impact your enrolment onto the programme, and any placement organisation.

Suitability Declaration Form

Submit the online Suitability Declaration Form 

This form is confidential and submissions will only be reviewed by trained members of staff.

You should complete this form fully and honestly.
If no disclosure is made, the condition will be passed on your offer. If a disclosure is made within this form it will be assessed (all cases are assessed on a case by case basis)
Once the assessment has taken place the condition will be cleared, or in some circumstances your case will be referred to the Suitability Panel.

Teacher Services Restriction List Check

You will be automatically checked on the Employer Access Online service once your DBS check has been returned.

If you appear to already have a Teacher Registration Number (TRN) you will be contacted by the team so we can understand why this is the case and gain any details needed to comply with our admissions processes.

This may include contacting previous ITT study institutions to gain a reference.

The condition will remain outstanding until we are satisfied the condition can be passed.

Two References

At interview, if we feel the proposed references you have listed on your application will not meet our requirements this will have been discussed, and you should take the suggested action. More information on acceptable references can be found in the references guide in the guidance section below.

Once you have accepted your offer the DfE Apply system will contact the referees you listed on your application.

References will be checked once they are both submitted, and the condition will be cleared once it is confirmed they are acceptable.

Suspension of Study

According to our University Regulations (Regulation 6.3 Governing Admission to Courses of Study) a candidate shall not normally be admitted where the total load of all courses pursued by the candidate exceeds one full-time equivalent load, including study at other higher education institutions. As such, we require evidence of completion or suspension of your current studies.

English language test certificate that meets our Band B English language requirements (Different form GCSE English Requirement)

We accept a range of English language tests as evidence of your English language skills; including the IELTS Academic test, TOEFL iBT and Pearson Academic Test of English. A full list of the English language tests that we accept and the equivalent scores needed to meet the requirements of your course is available on our English language requirementsLink opens in a new window webpage. "Best score results" which combine a number of test scores are not accepted.

Please e-mail a scanned/electronic copy or high resolution photograph of your English language test results to cte.admissions@warwick.ac.uk. We will verify the results of submitted English language tests with the provider directly.

Subject Knowledge Enhancement Course

A Subject Knowledge Enhancement Course (SKE) will have been added to your offer if, upon assessing your application it became apparent that your subject knowledge requires improvement ahead of the course start date.

The length of the SKE will be detailed in your offer letter (sent to you by PGT2@warwick.ac.uk)

Change of Name Evidence

If the certificates you have provided do not match the name you applied with on your DfE Application form proof of the name change should be provided. This can be provided electronically by e-mailing a scanned/electronic copy or high resolution photograph of your change of name evidence to cte.admissions@warwick.ac.uk.

Evidence of Right to Study

If this condition has been added to your offer you’ll need to provide a copy of your British birth certificate or UK Passport to clear this condition. This can be provided electronically by e-mailing a scanned/electronic copy or high resolution photograph of your change of name evidence to cte.admissions@warwick.ac.uk but you’ll need to provide your evidence in person during your first day on programme.
