Reliable sources to search for jobs online

Here is a list of reliable sources for searching for jobs online

As you remember from the first exercise of this module, to make sure that you are accessing reliable and not fake sources for online job search you generally should rely on a four main sources for getting this information from these are:

LinkedIn: A professional social media platform only focused on jobs. It is also one of the most well-know and used around the world.(Go to section 4.3.1 LinkedInLink opens in a new window)

Well-known recruitment platforms and job portals: These are websites that are specific and focused on jobs. For example Bayt.com or Opensooq.(Go to section 4.3.2 Well-known recruitment and job sitesLink opens in a new window)

International and local NGOs and development organisation websites: International and local NGOs provide lists of websites or portals where refugees can use to apply for specific jobs, in addition some provide a list of job vacancies.(Go to section 4.3.3 NGOs and development organisation websitesLink opens in a new window)

Company websites: The company or organisation who has a job opening usually posts the jobs on their websites(Go to section 4.3.4 Company or organisation websitesLink opens in a new window).

Most well-known job websites/portal and recruitment sites have a mobile application that can be downloaded from the application store and used on your phone.
💡
The majority of online job websites, job portals and recruitment portals provide candidates with the option to create an account on the portal or website. These accounts are very useful when searching for jobs as they provide those who have an account with a number of features that others that do not have an account cannot access; which will be discuss in the next module (Module 5).

Unreliable sources to search for jobs online

Now that we spoke about the reliable sources to search for jobs online, it is worth mentioning other sources, that are not very reliable but can be used to search for jobs online but you have to be very careful.

I know many of you rely on social media platforms such as Facebook to get information about the job market and what jobs are available. However, this is the least reliable source to search for jobs.

The reason being that since these platforms are social platforms for socialising and not focused on jobs anyone can post on them regarding jobs. Therefore, there is no guarantee that the job being posted are real or reliable. Therefore, you have to be extra careful when searching for jobs on social media platforms that are not focused on jobs like Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok, Snapchat, X (previously twitter) and so on.

Now, if you think that the jobs you see on these non-job focused social media platforms are good and you cannot find them on other sources; so you have no choice but to use these social media platforms you should take the following steps to be careful and safe:

1- Create a different social media account than your personal one that you use.

2- Join groups which are focused on jobs or the areas you live and have many members, in for example Jobs in Jordan Facebook group.

3- Join official and preferably verified company or organisation social media pages (this will be discussed in Module 7), for example here is the official page for the ANERALink opens in a new window on Facebook.

4- Most important: You need to always double check if the organisation or company that posts the job exists, you do that by typing the name of the organisation on google and checking if they have a website or information on them online. If you could not find anything online when you search for it then the source is probably unreliable or fake.

⚠️

Social media platforms such as Facebook, instagram, snapchat, tiktok and so on which are not focused on jobs, are the least reliable sources for information on jobs and to search for jobs.
