Warwick Law School is deeply saddened by the death of our former colleague, Nicola Docker, on 27 August 2022. Whilst she left the department in November 2018, she will be remembered by many staff who worked alongside her during her time at the Law School. She had an extremely kind-hearted nature, endless generosity and infectious laugh. She was taken far too soon and will be missed greatly by all who knew her. We send our deepest condolences to her family and friends. 

We join with so many other communities across the world in expressing our sorrow at the death of Her Majesty the Queen. Like many universities, the University of Warwick was granted its Royal Charter of Incorporation in 1965 by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, and our flags are half-mast to pay our respects and honour her memory.

Warwick Law School welcomes a new Assistant Professor to our team.

Catherine Briddick joins us from the University of Oxford where she worked as the Refugee Studies Centre’s Departmental Lecturer in Gender and International Human Rights and Refugee Law.

Warwick Law School welcomes a new Reader to our team.

Mara Malagodi joins us all the way from the Faculty of Law of the Chinese University of Hong Kong where she taught constitutional law. Before Hong Kong, she was senior lecturer at the City Law School in London.

Warwick Law School welcomes a new Assistant Professor to our team.

Joy Malala joins us from Aston University where she worked as a lecturer in commercial law. Before that, she was a lecturer and the Research Director at Strathmore University in Nairobi Kenya.

Recent LLB graduate Eunice Soo is following in her mother's footsteps to become a lawyer in Malaysia, where she hopes to give back to her community. Together they shared what graduation means to them and the power scholarships can have to change lives.

Professor Sharifah Sekalala, an expert in global health law is part of an international team exploring how we define the end of a crisis in a new project funded by the Wellcome Trust’s new Discovery Award scheme.

As we approach the start of the new academic year, we would like to wish a warm welcome to our new colleagues but also a fond farewell to those we have had to say goodbye to.

Warwick Law School’s Dr Christine Schwöbel-Patel has taken up a prestigious Alexander von Humboldt fellowship for experienced researchers. For the next year, Christine will be based at the Humboldt University of Berlin, where she is working on the topic ‘Making States “Safe” for Investment: International Criminal Law and Imperial Rentier Capitalism’.

Warwick Law School's Dr Rajnaara Akhtar has written a piece for The Conversation UK (published on the 2 August 2022) on marriage laws in England and Wales and the need to update outdated legislation. 'Your dream wedding might not be legal - time to update England's old-fashioned marriage laws.'

Warwick Institute of Public Engagement (WIE) to present three public lectures on philosophical ideas of Difference, Authenticity and Love. All will be presented by WLS's Alex Sharpe. All events will be free and all are welcome. The first lecture, On Difference, will take place 7 November 2002. Find out more and register.

'Assessing the Role of Digital Finance for Gender Equality’ by Dr Serena Natile, is the latest in a series of briefs, bringing current legal thinking to bear on public policy issues and contemporary concerns, published by GLOBE, a research centre within Warwick Law School.
