BA/Leverhulme Grant to help fund Rohingya Refugee Research

New Book on Migration by Professor Dallal Stevens

Released this month and published by Manchester University Press, the new book Reclaiming Migration: Voices from Europe's 'Migrant Crisis' was co-authored by Warwick Law School’s Dallal Stevens, Vicki Squire and Nick Vaughan-Williams (Department of Politics and International Studies) and Nina Perkowski (University of Hamburg).

Vanessa Munro quoted in The Guardian

Warwick Law School’s Professor Munro has contributed to an article in The Guardian newspaper on the truth about the hidden number of suicides amongst domestic abuse victims. The findings are linked to her recent research and work with the charity Refuge.

Dallal Stevens comments on UK asylum overhaul

The UK government's Home Secretary, Priti Patel, has today announced a new system for people seeking asylum in Britain. Professor Dallal Stevens, an expert on asylum, claims much of what she is proposing is either (a) inaccurate, (b) unrealistic, (c) existed previously or (d) unlikely to achieve her goals.

Eleven Law students accepted to present at BCUR

Warwick Law School is delighted to announce that eleven of our students have been selected to present at The British Conference for Undergraduate Research (BCUR) hosted by the University of Leeds in April this year. Law is one of only four departments at Warwick to have more than 10 students accepted to present.

Warwick Alumnus secures Director position at NYAS

Ben Twomey, who studied on our LLM in Advanced Legal Studies in 2015-2016 has recently been promoted to the position of Director of Policy and Research at the National Youth Advocacy Service (NYAS). The role involves leading campaigns for the charity in order to influence laws and policies that affect care-experienced children and young people.

Law Alumnus Nigel Priestley is awarded an MBE

Nigel Priestley, senior partner at Huddersfield law firm Ridley & Hall and one of the UK’s most respected care and adoption specialist solicitors, has been named in the Queen’s New Year 2021 Honours List in which he has been awarded an MBE in recognition of his services to Children and Families.

Law Student Secures WIHEA Fellowship

Third year Law and Sociology student and SSLC Chair Lucy Young has been awarded a Warwick International Higher Education Academy (WIHEA) Fellowship. When asked how she felt about the news she told us, “I'm over the moon! I was quite nervous when I submitted my application, but I'm so glad I have the opportunity and resources to contribute towards substantial change across the university.”
