Language Taster for Local Pupils at Warwick

The Student Recruitment and Admissions Office (SRAO) is holding a one-day Modern Foreign Language Conference at Westwood Campus, on Wednesday 10th November, with the aim of increasing applications from young people to Modern Foreign Language courses at Further Education (FE) and Higher Education (HE) institutions.

Centre for Lifelong Learning - Open Studies Award Ceremony

Over 300 people gathered for the Open Studies Awards Ceremony on Saturday at the University when students received their awards from Professor Stuart Palmer, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Warwick.


Survey Proves On-Campus Mobile Telephone Base Stations Safe

In January the Estates Office commissioned the National Radiological Protection Board (NRPB) to carry out a survey assessing the University community’s exposure to radio signals from the mobile phone base stations on the roof of the Library. The survey demonstrated that the base stations pose no threat to University members and that the exposure to radio signals is well beneath recommended guidelines.

Should the University Set Up a Campus in Singapore?

The University has been invited by the Singaporean Government via the Economic Development Board (EDB) Singapore to open a campus in Singapore.


Wireless Internet Access in University House

The University House Atrium and Coffee Bar and Restaurant now benefit from a wireless internet ‘hotspot’, where suitably equipped laptops and handheld devices can access the internet at speeds of around 11 megabytes per second, equivalent to around twenty times as fast as a home broadband connection.


Internet Access Restrictions - Update

This is an update regarding the status of the University's Internet connection. Since equipment replacement earlier yesterday morning (26/08/04), there has been no re-occurrence of the disruption to Internet services which took place over the past couple of days.

Red Square gets long awaited cosmetic surgery

Red Square, the area behind Rootes Residences, is having a face-lift. Work is going to ensure the area is more appealing; it is due for completion by the start of the autumn term. The square been ripe for modification since it lost its status as a primary student leisure area when the Piazza was constructed.

A Comical Autumn at Warwick Arts Centre

The Warwick Arts Centre has an exciting comedy line-up for the Autumn term, including top names Lenny Henry, Tony Robinson, and Linda Smith. The Arts Centre will play host to 12 top comedian acts in the coming months, with more exciting plans for the New Year.


Raising Money for Medical Research at Warwick

The Medical Research Fund (MRF) Coventry and Warwickshire, the Biological Sciences-based fundraising campaign to support medical research and training fellowships, was successfully launched in March 2004. Over 150 people attended, including local mayors, County councillors, health care professionals, representatives from the business community and senior University representatives.


Engineers Find Stressful Way To Produce Artwork

Civil Engineers Dr Wanda Lewis and John Brew have found a stressful way of producing original artwork. The images are known as the ‘Stress at Work’ range due to the way they are produced. They are derived from engineering calculations and are colour-coded plots of stresses and strains.
