On Saturday 25^th October 2008, Warwick Volunteers will celebrate Make A Difference Day, the UK’s single biggest day of volunteering, with three different projects across Coventry.

Students will be joining Thare Machi [Starfish] Education to celebrate Chinese and Other Languages Day. Thare Machi is an organisation which produces basic life skills messages on DVD and distributes them to developing countries across the world. They need volunteers to help translate scripts into foreign lanuages, ensuring the lessons are accessible overseas.

Volunteers will also be getting their hands dirty at Coventry Carer’s allotment in Tile Hill. This allotment provides a tranquil space where family carers can take a break from their caring role. This year they hope to improve the allotment by creating a BBQ space and raised beds, so the carers can access the allotments more easily.

The Warwick Volunteers painting and decorating group will also spending the day outside, running a painting project at Bath Place Community Venture in Leamington Spa where they will be painting benches and creating a Humpty Dumpty mural for the nursery playground.

The Make A Difference campaign is organised by Universities UK and CSV (Community Service Volunteers). Both organisations stress the advantages of volunteering for students, emphasising the benefits it holds for personal and professional development. It's a chance for students to make a difference in their community by taking part in one of the following three project Warwick Volunteers have organised this year.
