Call for Nominations - Royal Society Scientific Meeting

The Royal Society, the UK’s independent scientific academy, is seeking nominations for the Society’s scientific discussion meetings.

Each year, the Society hosts approximately a dozen interdisciplinary scientific discussions focusing on issues relating to new or rapidly changing science and technology.

These meetings usually last two days and welcome experts in science or technology to present papers on the latest developments in their field and to engage discussion among those in attendance.

Any UK scientist is eligible to propose a discussion topic. Suggestions for subjects with economic and social implications are welcomed.

In addition to the discussion meetings, proposals are being sought for ‘theme’ issues to be included in The Royal Society’s journal, Philosophical Transactions.

The journal now publishes volumes dedicated to papers that form a coherent ‘theme’. These volumes function as an attractive and flexible medium through which topical science issues can be compiled and circulated.

The deadline for new proposals is Monday 23 August 2004. All proposals will be submitted to the Committee in November.

Details on the scientific discussion meetings and themed issues of Philosophical Transactions as well as an online proposal form can be found on the Royal Society’s website at http://www.royalsoc.ac.uk/forms
