Westfield Health British Transplant Games

Warwick will be playing host to the 32nd Westfield Health British Transplant Games this summer, between Thursday 30 July and Sunday 2 August.

The Games are organised by the charity Transplant Sport UK (TSUK) and take place in a different city each year. This year the Games are taking place in Coventry and the University will be home to the Games Village, as well as hosting a number of the sporting events.

Over 600 athletes will compete in front of more than 1,500 supporters to raise awareness of the need for more organ donors, and to encourage transplant patients to regain fitness. All of the athletes have had a transplant and now lead healthy and fulfilling lives.

Spectators to the event are welcome. A range of events are taking place in a variety of venues, with an opening ceremony taking place on Thursday 30 July in University Square, Coventry between 19.00 and 21.00. A day of athletics (track and field) will take place on Sunday 2 August between 09.00-17.00 on the Westwood campus at the University.

In addition, runners and walkers of all ages and abilities are invited to take part in the Transplant Games Donor Run on Saturday 1 August 2009 in Coventry from 7pm. There will be a 5k challenge for runners and walkers aged 13 and over, and a 3k fun run open to all ages. For more information, visit www.coventrytelegraph.net/donor
