Festival of Postgraduate Research
An inspiring gathering: practical wisdom and supportive networks
The 2024 Festival of Postgraduate Research at Warwick was a vibrant celebration of the PhD journey, designed to enlighten, inspire, and connect doctoral candidates across diverse disciplines. The event was a comprehensive showcase of the academic and personal growth that defines the PhD experience.
Keynote speeches and sessions, led by distinguished academics and seasoned researchers, provided invaluable practical tips to help PGRs navigate the challenges of doctoral research. These talks were tailored to encourage students to not only survive but thrive and enjoy their PhD journey, focusing on overcoming hurdles and enhancing well-being.
Creative Showcases and Interdisciplinary Dialogues
A standout feature of the festival was the opportunity for PGRs to present their research in creative formats. This platform encouraged the sharing of ideas in innovative ways, fostering an environment where knowledge transcended traditional academic boundaries. It was an engaging way for students to gain feedback and appreciation from both peers and the wider university community. This exposure is crucial, not only for personal confidence but also for fostering a sense of community among researchers who might otherwise feel isolated in their specific areas of study.
The Joy of Organising
Taking on the role of one of the organisers brought its own set of challenges and learnings. The experience was a deep dive into the intricacies of event planning, from curating content and selecting dynamic speakers to managing logistics, providing a unique perspective on the impact such gatherings have on academic and professional development.
Looking Forward: A Call to Participate
The festival was not just an academic event; it was a social celebration that brought researchers together, creating a sense of belonging and fun amidst the rigors of research. Engaging in it was a reminder of why we come into academia: to discover, connect, and inspire. For those considering attending or contributing to this year’s festival, it promises to be an enriching experience that offers both professional growth and personal enjoyment.
Each year, the festival evolves, driven by the enthusiasm and participation of the Warwick research community. Engaging in this event can be transformative, offering a stage to shine and a forum to connect. Let’s keep the tradition alive—join in on 12th May and make the 2025 Festival of Postgraduate Research your stage!
If you haven’t already, please consider showcasing your work to our research community. This opportunity is open to all PGR students, regardless of the stage of your PhD. This is an opportunity to communicate your research to researchers outside your discipline. We have a range of formats on offer, including 3 minute ‘lightning’ style talks, posters, and other creative forms. Could you represent your research through a demonstration, artwork, or even a cake?
