Cumberland Lodge Conference 2023
The Doctoral College invite applications from PhD students for one fully-funded place at a major national postgraduate conference, ‘Life Beyond the PhD’.
The conference will take place 14 to 18 August 2023 at the stunning venue of Cumberland Lodge, set in the Royal landscape of Windsor Great Park. This annual conference is designed to help you develop the transferable skills you will need to maximise the impact of your academic work in the wider world, both within and outside of academia.
The varied programme includes sessions on:
- presentation skills and writing for non-academic audiences
- sharing research with non-specialists
- CV writing skills
- collaboration skills to optimise social impact.
Eligibility
The Doctoral College invites applications from PhD students, who are in their second or third year (or part-time equivalent) of registration in any discipline. The University will cover the registration fee for two selected candidates for the four night stay in a single occupancy room, including all meals.
As a condition of the funding we expect a short report to be written after attending the conference to share your experiences so that we may use this on our website or in marketing materials in the future. We will then, once this has been submitted, reimburse reasonable travel expenses.
How to Apply
To apply, please complete the online application form by 23:59 on Friday 9 June June 2023.
You will be required to provide a statement of interest indicating what skills and experiences you hope to gain from attending this conference (300 words maximum).
Your application will be considered on the basis of your written statement. You must be available to attend the full conference in Windsor from 14 to 18 August 2023. The successful candidates will be notified by 16 June 2023.
