Testing and self-isolation requirements for people travelling to the UK vary, depending on which country you're travelling from or through to get to the UK and whether you qualify as fully vaccinated under the rules for travel to England. Check the full requirements below depending on where you're travelling from and your vaccination status.

Red list countries

There are currently no countries or territories on the red list for travel to England (15 December). The government keep the red list under constant review and countries and territories can be added to the red list at any time. It's important to check the latest guidance before you travel - read the rules about what you must do when you travel to England from abroad.

International students arriving to the UK

Red list countries

There are currently no countries on the UK government red list (15 December)

If you're arriving from a country on the UK government's red-list you must quarantine in a managed hotel. Check full guidance.

Rest of the world

For the rest of the world, what you need to do depends on whether you qualify as being fully-vaccinated:

• Fully vaccinated

• Not fully vaccinated

The University has conducted an overarching assessment of the continuing risks arising from Covid-19, which identifies the new set of minimum control measures to be adopted across campus, especially in teaching spaces (see links below).

Student Society events should work to the same overarching assessment wherever possible, or should work through their Students' Union contact to develop alternative Risk Assessments and Standard Operating Procedures as and when necessary.

Informal events organised by students without formal Student Society oversight will also need to adopt the overarching Risk Assessment fully or, where the overarching Risk Assessment is not wholly appropriate, the organisers will need to develop alternative Risk Assessments and Standard Operating Procedures and share them with those who might be attending their event.

If you are organising your own non-Student Society event, and feel that the overarching Risk Assessment and SOP are not appropriate, you can seek health and safety advice.

If you have been in a country or territory on the UK government’s red list in the 10 days before you arrive in England you must book a managed quarantine hotel for your 10 day isolation period.

We’re providing a full reimbursement of the cost of the managed quarantine hotel for students who are starting or continuing their studies at Warwick in September 2021. The eligibility criteria are detailed below.

Eligibility Criteria

You are a new or continuing student either starting or continuing your studies at Warwick from September 2021^ and:

On the date of entry to the UK:

1. Your date of arrival falls within the relevant period for which support is being provided (09.07.2021 – 10.01.2022 inclusive)
2. You are domiciled in (and not visiting or transiting), a country that was on the UK’s ‘Red List’ on that date
3. You were required to quarantine in a managed quarantine hotel
4. You paid for the managed quarantine hotel and can provide a receipt for this

And

On the date of application for the reimbursement:

5. You have completed the 10-day quarantine in a managed quarantine hotel
6. You are fully enrolled on a course of study in the 2021/22 academic year, with no visa checks outstanding, and are not permanently or temporarily withdrawn

^1-year Postgraduate Master's students who started their course in the autumn of 2020, have completed all the taught elements of the course, and will be returning to the UK in the autumn of 2021 for the purpose of applying for the Graduate Route visa would not be eligible. Additionally, students who are: coming to Warwick for an overseas exchange programme, are an exchange or visiting student (all study levels) or are conducting an inbound Placement Year are also not eligible for the reimbursement.

Additional information:

• If you are coming to the UK from a country that is on the UK government’s red list, it is mandatory for you to book into the official managed quarantine before travelling to the UK and to complete your period of quarantine there.
• You will be required to pay your managed hotel quarantine fee upfront and then if you are eligible for reimbursement, it will be credited to you by the University towards the end of the year. The University is not permitted to pay funds to a third party organising the managed hotel quarantine.
• There are some exemptions from managed quarantine for medical or compassionate reasons and other exemptions to the hotel quarantine requirement (this details jobs that qualify for travel exemptions so is unlikely to be relevant to those coming for full-time study).
• If you travel with your parents or other students (non-Warwick) and share a room, provided you meet the other eligibility criteria, you will qualify for reimbursement of the full cost for one adult only. If you share a room with another Warwick student and they also meet the eligibility criteria, you can upload the same CTM invoice/receipt. Providing that both of your names are on the document, the total sum will be split evenly between you and the other Warwick student you shared your room with.
• In the event that you withdraw from your studies within 14 days of starting your course, you understand that the University will not cover the costs of quarantine accommodation and you may be required to repay these if they have already been credited to your account.

• If you are facing financial hardship and are unable to pay for your managed quarantine accommodation, and if you are a UK resident or a student with a visa to study in the UK, there may be payment options available to you. Visit the CTM portal and scroll down to the "financial hardship" paragraph.

• Students who have enrolled at the University of Warwick for 2021 entry can only receive the Managed Hotel Quarantine Accommodation Reimbursement once.

  If you are planning to return to your country of domicile after completing Term 1 and have previously received a Managed Hotel Quarantine Accommodation Reimbursement, you may wish to strongly consider the following before you decide whether to travel to your country of domicile for the Christmas vacation:

  • Due to the Omicron variant of Covid-19, the UK government’s red list of countries is actively under review and may be further added to.
  • Prior to your return to the UK to commence Term 2, if your country is placed on the UK Government red list before you arrive in the UK, you will be subject to a mandatory 10-day hotel quarantine. If you have received a Managed Hotel Quarantine Accommodation Reimbursement previously, you will not be eligible for another reimbursement.
  • You’ll need to have completed any required self-isolation and be able to return to campus by the start of term 2 (10 January 2022) to begin teaching and learning.

If circumstances do change, our flexible planning approach means we can quickly adapt if required. The experiences of the past year mean we're confident we can deliver high quality blended learning and teaching and can adapt swiftly following changes in government guidance.

We know that some of our new and returning international students are facing challenges travelling to the UK for the start of term 1. We have therefore reviewed the latest arrival date for a number of our courses. The departments/courses who are able to consider requests for a later arrival date of no later than 10 January 2022, if there are unavoidable factors preventing you from arriving on campus for term 1, are listed below.

New and returning international students will have received an email explaining the eligibility criteria and process to request a later arrival. If you think you should have received this email and have not, please contact studentcomms@warwick.ac.uk.

Departments/courses able to offer remote study options in term 1 2021/22 and an arrival date of no later than 10 January 2022

Please carefully check which departments/courses are able to offer the later arrival date below. A later arrival date request will be possible for all levels of study in the department/School unless the brackets specify only certain courses are included, or that certain courses are excluded.

If you can see that remote study in term 1 is not allowed for your course based on the list below or your department/course is not on this list, you cannot request the later arrival date and must arrive on campus by your existing course physical arrival deadline (listed as 'Latest Start Date' on your CAS).

If your course/department is not listed above, please note that you will need to arrive at Warwick to start your studies for October, and the date as specified in your CAS is the latest date you are permitted to arrive.

Student Wellbeing is very important at Warwick. Wellbeing Support Services provide a range of support, from self-help resources to email counselling and therapy groups. You can also reach out for academic support from your Personal Tutor. Find out more about how you’ll be supported at Warwick.

If you're travelling to campus from within the UK, we strongly advise you to take a lateral flow test before you travel to campus.

Students travelling to the UK from overseas should follow the latest government guidance. Testing and self-isolation requirements may vary depending on where you're travelling from and your vaccination status.

Once you arrive at Warwick, you're advised to take twice-weekly lateral flow tests, you can collect tests on campus.

If you are Clinically Vulnerable or Clinically Extremely Vulnerable, we strongly encourage you to share information with the relevant services such as the Disability Team, Warwick Accommodation and the Residential Life Team so that we can ensure you are aware of the support available. We encourage you also to share as much information as you are comfortable with your flatmates, so that they have an understanding of your circumstances and can take this into consideration.

It is also important that you share relevant information about your circumstances with your academic department (personal tutor, supervisor or undergraduate/postgraduate office) to ensure any appropriate risk assessments can be conducted or/and alternative arrangements can be considered for your studies.

We're receiving a higher volume of delivery requests than normal and are working to deliver parcels as quickly as possible. We're working through the requests in date and time order. Please do not make multiple requests for the same parcel as this will not speed up the delivery.

• Thursday 9 December: Email update following government announcement.
• Tuesday 7 December: Updated guidance for international arrivals to the UK. You must take a Covid-19 test in the 2 days before you travel to England.
• 29 November 2021: Updated guidance for international arrivals to the UK from 30 November. If you are fully vaccinated, you must self-isolate and take a PCR test before the end of day 2 after you arrive. If the result is negative, you can leave self-isolation.
• 17 September 2021: We have added guidance about lateral flow testing before travelling to campus for term 1.
• 15 September 2021: We have included guidance you need to follow when booking a room on campus.
• September 2021: We have added more information about the reimbursement of the red-list managed hotel quarantine cost.
• August 2021: We have updated the information about the latest arrival date for international students (only certain courses are eligible).
• August 2021: We have updated our Coronavirus website. We have reduced the number of pages across the site, and we merged a number of pages into one. This page now includes information for students about your safety and wellbeing, academic experience, student experience and arrival at Warwick.

Term 2 will begin on 10 January 2022, and teaching and learning will commence as per your term 2 timetable. See our recent email update.

From term 2, the decision has been taken to remove the 1.5m social distancing restrictions in teaching spaces which means there's the opportunity for more face-to-face learning and interaction. While the relaxation of social distancing restrictions will allow more larger group teaching to take place face to face, we will continue to take a blended learning approach. It is clear from your feedback that a majority of you would value more face-to-face learning and interaction, but there are still some of you who value online and a continuation of blended learning.
