Steve Wilkes, Deputy Finance Director (Commercial & Systems)
As a Deputy Finance Director, Steve currently acts as senior line manager for the University’s Procurement team and Finance Systems’ team. As well as providing support to the University’s commercial operations as a member of the CCSG Steering and Executive groups; he is also the University’s Nominated Officer on a number of subsidiary boards related to commercial operations.
Steve is a member of the Financial Reporting Group (FRG), which works on behalf of the British Universities’ Finance Directors Group. The FRG helps support and develop financial reporting for the Higher Education sector, including the production of the HE Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP), in aid of the effective completion and compliance of financial statements within the sector.
Steve joined Warwick in April 2004 as a Finance Manager in the Departmental Services Team, before taking up a new role as Head of Group Accounting in late 2004. As a Deputy Finance Director, since 2011, Steve has led the University’s SAP and Financial Systems’ team, central Procurement team and closely worked with the University’s commercial operations as part of a changing portfolio.
Prior to working at the University, Steve read for an Economics degree at Warwick University and worked for an accountancy practice in Birmingham where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant. During his time in practice, Steve worked first in audit and then corporate finance.
