Developing Self Esteem therapy group

Developing Self-Esteem
A supportive therapy group for students building self-understanding and self-worth

This group is suitable for students who are struggling with self-doubt, negative self-talk, or low self-esteem. This supportive therapy group is designed specifically for students who want to better understand themselves and develop a stronger and healthier, more compassionate sense of self.

This group draws from evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), to help students to:

  • Explore and gain more understanding about their sense of self in a group setting
  • Become aware of some unhelpful thinking patterns and rules for living they have created
  • Build a kinder, more supportive inner voice
  • Strengthen emotional resilience and self-acceptance
  • Develop practical tools for everyday self-esteem

In addition to structured guidance and theory from CBT and CFT models, the group provides space for experiential processing—giving you the opportunity to explore your experiences in real time, connect with others, and grow through shared insight and support to offer a path toward feeling more grounded, self-aware, and empowered.

  • This is a weekly ‘in person’ therapy group run over 8 weeks during term time only, for students at any stage of their education. Each session will last for 90 minutes, and attendance is required at every session. The group will be facilitated by psychological therapists and based at Wellbeing and Student Support services at Senate House
  • Students interested in this group should discuss this in a brief consultation or if appropriate with the person they are currently working with e.g. Psychological therapist, Wellbeing Advisor, mentor etc. They may then be offered a one-to-one pre-group session with a group facilitator to decide whether this group is a suitable option for them at present.
