Study Needs Assessments
Once your funding body has sent you a letter to say that you are eligible for a Disabled Students Allowances, you then have an Assessment of Needs. The assessment is done by a qualified assessor in an approved ACCESS Centre. It comprises of a discussion of your individual strengths and difficulties in relation to aspects of academic study, assistive hardware and software to facilitate study, 'non-medical helper' support (specialist tuition, note taking, mentoring etc.) which may help and a demonstration of equipment and software.
Following the Study Needs Assessment, a report is sent to your funding body and they make the final decision about what your Disabled Students Allowances will be.
