Optional reassessments
If you have passed enough credits overall to progress to the next level of study or to graduate, but have failed one or more modules, then you may be offered the opportunity to take an optional reassessment as a capped resit or an uncapped further first attempt (FFA) for those modules.
Reassessments are available for failed modules (if offered by your examination board). You'll be given information about the decisions exam boards make, including the reassessments you have applied and been entered for, with your end of year results.
If you have been granted mitigating circumstances, your examination board may offer you reassessments for failed modules. If you started your course in 22/23, you will also be offered a capped reassessment for any failed modules as set out in full in the Right to Remedy Failure policy.
You can choose whether or not to take the optional reassessment in September. Please note:
- If you are a finalist and choose to take an optional reassessment, then your graduation will be delayed and you will not be able to graduate in the summer degree congregations (once the reassessments have been taken, you will graduate at a later date).
- If you are a non-finalist, you will be able to progress to the next year of study, whether you choose to take one or more optional reassessments in September or not. However, if you are offered further optional reassessments in the September results, you will need to choose whether to progress or to take a reassessment without a residence year.
