Finding your next student home

You may already be starting to think about where you might live for the next academic year, and if you’re in your first year that will likely mean making the move from campus to one of the many options available within local areas. But there’s no need to panic or rush in to booking accommodation - you have plenty of time to consider your options. You should spend some time getting to know the local city or town where you’d like to live and the people you’d like to live with - committing yourself to a property and housemates too early may be a mistake so do your research and give yourself time to be sure.

We’ve changed how we do things

With the growing amount of private student accommodation options available locally, we will no longer be offering students Warwick managed off campus housing. This change will be effective from the 2021/22 academic year, with the exception of a small number of properties in Coventry that will still have contracts to run, and these properties will be available to book in January 2021, subject to availability.

If you’re going to be entering the final year of your undergraduate degree in 2021/22, you’re eligible to apply for campus accommodation in the Final Year Ballot and applications will open in January 2021; you can also apply if you are going to be a part-year student on the Venice or Monash programme, or are an undergraduate student who has been supported through the specific accommodation requirements process. If you have specific accommodation requirements, including those based on disability, medical, or mental health grounds, you will need to follow the relevant process. More information will be available on our website.

Discover the local areas

There is a fantastic variety of options available for you to live local to the University. Living in Coventry can offer short commutes and a vibrant city experience. Leamington Spa is a great choice for students wanting a buzzing high street and beautiful scenery but don’t mind a longer journey in to campus. Kenilworth promotes a more relaxed way of life, just a short commute to campus by bus or bike with beautiful countryside on your doorstep and trendy cocktail bars and coffee shops on the small high street. You also have the choice of living within a private student house or purpose built student accommodation, but whatever you choose, it is important that you do not rush into making a decision and seek appropriate advice.

A little bit of advice

There are some key facts to read up on when looking to let a property from a private landlord, so whether you want to know more about signing a contract, paying deposits or how to choose an agent or landlord, the Student Advice Centre has it covered.
