Finding off-campus accommodation: a blog by Modhurima Islam, Student Money Assistant
Finding housing as a Warwick student can seem daunting. However, there is nothing to worry about because there is more accommodation than students in Coventry. Whether you've decided to join the university late or find yourself in a tight spot, there is still available housing out there, including off-campus accommodation. Check out the University's dedicated living off-campus webpages.
Here are a few resources for navigating the process effectively:
1. Warwick student vacancies
If you are looking for housing on-campus, this is a good place to start. The Student Vacancies page shows advertisements from students seeking a replacement tenant for their accommodation. Contact accommodation@warwick.ac.uk for further information about taking over another student’s contract.
2. Private housing / student accommodation
Private housing in Coventry, Leamington Spa, and Kenilworth is a popular choice among Warwick students. Websites like Rightmove, Zoopla, and Student Pad list available properties and house shares. You can also look at Amber Student which lists many private student accommodations and may offer generous discounts for late bookings as well!
To save time, focus your search on areas with good transport links to the university. Leamington Spa offers a student community with a lively nightlife, while Coventry is often more budget-friendly and closer to campus. If you want more information about the different areas have a look at the Local Area Guides to find out which place would suit you best.
3. Student housing groups
Social media can be a lifesaver when looking for housing last minute. Search keywords like “Warwick Student Housing” on Facebook, and you will find several groups where students post about available rooms, seek housemates, or look for people to take over their housing contracts. Additionally, there are several WhatsApp groups for different courses and societies, where you can ask about housing as well.
4. Students' Union forum
One useful link to explore is the SU Housemates Wanted Forum. Warwick Students post here about available space in their house, so it is highly trustworthy. Moreover, finding housing through this avenue will mean you can live with and make friends with Warwick Students, which is particularly useful if you are new to the university. Make sure to ask for pictures, links, and all relevant details beforehand!
