Support with finances

A blog by Georgia, Student Funding Advisor.

As the end of term draws near, some students start to run out money for their essential living costs. This can negatively affect students’ wellbeing, but rest assured that the University has a number of safety nets available to support those struggling.

The Wellbeing and Student Support team offer brief consultations with professional wellbeing advisors, who can help you find the appropriate support for your current situation. These can be booked via the wellbeing portal and take place on weekdays from 10am to 3pm. The team have expertise offering advice on different practical and emotional issues, so don’t be afraid to get in contact.

Managing finances at university is a new and difficult task for many students, so the Student Funding Support team have complied lots of useful tips on budgeting, making, and saving money. This includes plenty of information on cutting down on excess spending, balancing work alongside studies, and dealing with rent deposits. The SU Advice Centre also offer advice for those worried about money.

For those in short-term financial difficulty, you can apply for an interest-free Emergency loan from the university. If you are a home student facing more serious financial struggles, you may qualify for the Warwick Hardship Fund, though the application process is more involved than for the loans. The payment is needs-related, and requirements vary for undergraduate, postgraduate, part-time, and full-time students. There is also some funding available through the Disability Services team, for diagnostic test reimbursement and an equipment contribution for those receiving the DSA, who meet certain criteria.

If you need any support with your money during the year you can contact Student Funding Support by email (studentfunding@warwick.ac.uk) or telephone (024 7615 0096) Monday to Thursday 8.30 – 5.00 or Friday 8.30 – 4.00.
